Solafune Signs MOU with the National Remote Sensing Centre of the Government of Zambia (NRSC)
Solafune and National Remote Sensing Centre have signed an MoU to jointly develop AI-driven geospatial solutions using satellite data to support evidence-based policymaking and sustainable development in Zambia.

On January 28, 2026, Solafune, Inc. (CEO: Ren Uechi), a company specializing in satellite data analysis and the operator of the satellite data analytics platform Solafune, is pleased to announce that it held an official Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), a governmental organization under the Government of the Republic of Zambia, to promote cooperation in the development and operation of geospatial applications using remote sensing (RS), geographic information systems (GIS), and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
At the signing ceremony, Mr. Samuel Chembe Maango, Chairperson of the Board of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of the Republic of Zambia; His Excellency Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mr. Akiteru Mikami and First Secretary Mr. Yasuhiro Tanaka from the Embassy of Japan in Zambia; and CEO Ren Uechi of Solafune, Inc. were in attendance.
Scope of the MoU and Target Areas of Collaboration
Under this MOU, Solafune and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of Zambia will collaborate on the development and operation of geospatial information solutions that support evidence-based policymaking and operational decision-making. The cooperation is expected to cover strategic domains, including:
Mineral resource exploration and mining activity monitoring
Environmental impact assessment
Forest and land-use change monitoring
Climate change impact assessment and disaster risk and impact evaluation
Agricultural productivity improvement and land-use mapping
Additional applications leveraging AI, remote sensing, and GIS technologies
Under the framework of this MOU, NRSC will provide national-level foundational datasets—such as satellite data archives, terrain data, and land-use and administrative boundary information—and will act as a key liaison with local authorities and relevant ministries to ensure alignment with national priorities. NRSC will also participate in the joint design and validation of AI–RS–GIS platforms, support local development and operational activities, and facilitate the dissemination and adoption of project outcomes among national and regional stakeholders.
Solafune will lead the technical development of AI-integrated geospatial analysis platforms, provide access to its proprietary algorithms, analytical infrastructure, and relevant satellite imagery, and support knowledge transfer and capacity building in geospatial analysis and Earth observation. Solafune will also support the organization of training sessions and workshops, act as a liaison with relevant United Nations agencies when necessary, and provide regular progress reports to NRSC and the designated progress evaluation committee.
Next Steps
Through this partnership, Solafune and the NRSC aim to deepen cooperation in geospatial technology, strengthen local capacity, and contribute to sustainable development and effective governance in Zambia through advanced Earth observation and AI-driven solutions.
