Solafune Selected for METI’s Satellite Data Utilization Environment Improvement and Solution Development Support Project

Solafune Inc. is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a free satellite data user under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "Satellite Data Utilization Environment Improvement and Solution Development Support Project."

Business Overview and Initiative

The Satellite Data Utilization Environment Improvement and Solution Development Support Project is a part of the SERVIS Project, which is focused on the development of space industrial technology research and solutions. The main goal of this project is to support the development and verification of solutions to address the issues with satellite data collected on the government's satellite data platform. In order to achieve this goal, additional commercial satellite data will be procured to help solve the problems faced by local governments, companies, and organizations in the selected regions chosen by METI based on their specific needs. The main objective of this project is to develop and demonstrate solutions to the issues faced by the selected regions by procuring the necessary commercial satellite data.

Solafune has been providing satellite data-based solutions, mainly catering to local governments and major companies. In this project, we are working on the detection and estimation of river and marine debris to contribute to SDG Goal 14, "Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development."  

We are currently conducting demonstration tests with Okayama City and other municipalities to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of our garbage detection algorithms. Our ultimate goal is to introduce this system to a range of municipalities and help reduce marine debris discharged from Japan.
