Solafune Platform Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary
Solafune marks five years of “Hack The Planet,” with usage in 120+ regions and 30k+ community submissions.

Solafune, Inc. (CEO: Ren Uechi), a company developing and providing satellite data analysis technologies and operating the satellite data analysis platform Solafune, is pleased to announce that the Solafune platform marked its fifth anniversary on October 12. Over five years, the community has grown across borders—turning satellite and geospatial data into solutions for real-world challenges and a sustainable future. Today, the platform is used in over 120 regions and has seen more than 30,000 submissions from developers and researchers worldwide.
“Solafune started with about ¥300k I earned on Mercari (a Japanese marketplace app) and a simple mission: make Earth observation useful to everyone,” said Ren Uechi, CEO of Solafune. “Today our work supports not only Japanese government organizations but also overseas governments—especially in the Global South—and UN-related agencies. We’ve come a long way from nothing, but there’s still much to do to solve real-world problems—and that’s what excites us.”
We’re deeply grateful to our fellow hackers, partners, and supporters who’ve been part of this journey.
